The Eternal Result of Being Obstinate (12/7/2025)

He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy” (Proverbs 29:01).

In the metaphor here, Solomon is talking about any person who refuses to listen to attempts to correct his sins because he has “hardened his neck”—that is, he has rejected correction often because of obstinacy. The fate for such a person is eternal destruction.

The preacher obviously wants all readers—in every generation—to stop and examine themselves: repentance is the only logical choice if we want to maintain a relationship with God and go to Heaven. The New Testament teaches the same principle.

God has given explicit instructions about the way He wants His people to live: how to obey the gospel, how to worship, how to live morally upright lives. If we refuse His instruction, we can expect nothing less than separation from Him in eternity.
