“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
Having expressed his gratitude for the fellowship he has enjoyed with the Philippians, the Apostle Paul offers a note of encouragement for their future in this verse: he assures them God will not leave them as they go forward.
Paul’s relationship with the Philippians began because of the gospel, but it has developed beyond just the gospel to a most personal level: their relationship will continue so long as they continue in the “good work” they began together in the Lord.
Hearing of such a closeness in the Lord has been the foundation for many down through the centuries even until today: those of us who have maintained a relationship with God and with our fellows in the gospel have experienced the same kind of feeling the apostle expresses here.
God will complete the work of those who remain faithful to Him until they die by welcoming them into His loving arms on that final day when time shall be no more and when the earth shall be consumed with flaming fire.
