First is a Series of Studies on Ephesians 1:15-23

For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints,  I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers,  that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him” (Ephesians 1:15-17).

Continuing in his expressions of gratitude and praise for the blessings God has bestowed on them, Paul compliments the Ephesian brethren for their strong faith and love.

The content of Paul’s prayers for the Ephesians begins in verse 17 where he requests that the Father bless them with a disposition toward a greater understanding of the Father’s will.

“Wisdom” means an ability to apply properly what one has learned; and “knowledge,” of course, refers to the content of what he or she has learned. The knowledge Paul prays they will receive will come by “revelation” sent from God.

Paul’s teaching here is a capsule version of the process God wants us, as His faithful children, to go through: we are to learn the truths God has revealed in His word and use wisdom in applying these truths to our lives. In doing so, we can please God and assure Him of the sincerity of our obedience.
