Pursue Faith (9/3/2023)

Third in a series of studies of 2 Timothy 2:22

Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22).

In this list, we cannot overlook the word “pursue” that must be understood as preceding each of these four goals a Christian is to seek after. “Pursue” means to seek after something consistently and diligently; so, our relationship with God cannot be casual.

And “faith,” as used here can refer both to a firm conviction in the existence of God and Jesus as well as to the “system of faith” to which every faithful child of God subscribes.

As we seek to live a holy life, then, we must be guided, first of all, by a dedicated belief in God and in Jesus and, second, by a determination to adhere to the system of redemption God has laid out for us in His Word. It is only in pursuing “faith” that we can keep the hope of going to heaven alive within our hearts.
