Foolish or Wise? (5/16/2021)

First in a series of studies of Proverbs 10:23-25

“To do evil is like sport to a fool, But a man of understanding has wisdom” (Proverbs 10:23).

Spiritual understanding that results in an acceptable lifestyle is the topic under

consideration in this passage. The foolish enjoy evil and amuse themselves by

participating in evil activities; the wise refine their tastes so that they take real

pleasure in things that please the Lord.

Satan presents sin to human beings as nothing but fun—in a way that makes it

appealing and desirable. And he never shows the lasting side effects of a sinful life.

The foolish buy his package, not only participating in sinful activities but also by

rebuffing and ridiculing attempts to bring them around to God’s way.

People of wisdom, however, not only listen to reason but allow themselves to be

influenced by the logic and appeal of a godly lifestyle. They train themselves to have

a pleasing taste for all things spiritual, resulting in a life that has pleasant

consequences here but also in a reward that will last for all eternity.
