“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward” (Hebrews 11:24-26).
We are surrounded by people who question everything that happens in their lives and are prepared either to blame God for the bad things that happen to them or give God credit for the most trivial incidents that have no real meaning in life.
Some like to throw God’s name and His will around as if He were some great Master Manipulator, exercising control over our every action and treating us as if we were nothing more than a robot.
God does have all power. But He does not constantly use that power to manipulate our lives—He has made us as creatures of choice, and He allows us to make those choices. And many of the bad things that happen to us in our lives are the result of our own poor choices.
Moses was in the same kind of situation we are—he had a choice to make: either enjoy the wealth and privileges of royalty in Egypt or be faithful to Jehovah and enjoy the riches of Heaven. He chose God. When we choose God over the pleasures of the world, we have the divine promise of Heaven for all eternity.
